Initially started to create a community for foreign and local LGBTQIA+ individuals in China, and by extension, East and South Asia, Piquing Duck has expanded its mandate to include LGBTQIA+ individuals from and in the Global South.
Much of the power of telling Global South Queer stories has been taken away from us and has instead been subsumed under global activist frameworks. Though worthy, such frameworks do not directly empower Global South gender and sexual minorities to share the full spectrum of our humanity.
Piquing Duck hopes to bridge the gap between global advocacy and Global South realities. While also featuring scholarly works that directly make the case for the uniqueness and importance of Global South equality movements, Piquing Duck also aims to be an authority in information, real storytelling, and the authentic representation of Global South gender and sexual minorities.
Beyond being the Global South Queer Perspective, Piquing Duck is an impetus for the Global South queer community, unity, and information dissemination. We stand on the shoulders of hardworking advocacy organizations and fearless activists in and from the Global South and hope to honor their sacrifices and hard work in our mission to bridge Global South LGBTQIA+ struggles and celebrate Global South LGBTQIA+ triumphs.
We are more than a minority; we are a majority with a voice and want it heard globally.
